The Assessment
See the whole picture
The Human Ecology Assessment is the starting point of the Human Ecology Method. It’s a holistic approach to understanding the interconnected parts of your life and wellbeing.
Before making changes, we first take time to understand where you are. Rather than looking at one symptom, habit, or challenge in isolation, the assessment considers your physical health, emotional wellbeing, your energy (think magnetic field), your relationships, your home, work and other frequent environments, your nourishment, movement, daily rhythms, seasonal cycles, and sense of purpose.
The goal is not to judge, diagnose, or give you a score. It is to recognize patterns, relationships, imbalances, and sources of nourishment so we can better understand what your individual ecology needs.
How the Assessment Works
The Human Ecology Assessment is a guided conversation administered during a private Human Ecology session. Through thoughtful questions and observation, we explore your current experience, lifestyle, body, environment, relationships, and the ways you move through the world.
When appropriate, the assessment may also draw upon the traditions and practices that inform the Human Ecology Method, including Chinese medicine, Daoist philosophy, seasonal cycles, movement and breath, meditation, lifestyle practices, and Chinese astrology.
The AssessmentTogether, we create a picture of where you are now and identify the areas that may benefit from attention.
What the Assessment Provides
The assessment creates a personal map—not a prescription.
It can help reveal where you are thriving, where energy may be depleted, what patterns may be influencing how you feel, and where small changes may create meaningful shifts.
From this understanding, we can develop a more personalized approach to wellbeing—one that considers your individual needs, circumstances, rhythms, and stage of life rather than applying a universal formula.
The assessment is used at the beginning of your Human Ecology journey and can be revisited during times of transition or as your life and circumstances change.
Awareness comes first. Then comes choice.
The Assessment & The Fieldguide
The deeper Human Ecology Assessment is administered privately during a session.
The Human Ecology Fieldguide contains complementary self-assessment tools and reflective practices that you can return to throughout the day, month, season, and year.
These simple practices help you develop the habit of observing your own ecology:
How am I feeling? What is giving me energy? What is depleting me? What does my body need? What season am I in? What is asking for attention?
Over time, observation becomes self-knowledge, and self-knowledge gives you greater capacity to make choices that support your own wellbeing.
The goal is not to perfect your life, but to understand yourself well enough to live in greater alignment with your own ecology.
